Vocabulary Class Review

The vocabulary class at CSLI helps increasing vocabulary level through different kind of procedures. Classes may begin with an interesting discussion in which the whole class participates, a game, a picture description or with any interesting aNormactivity that will introduce the vocabulary to be learnt in a fun way. Once the words are introduced, their meaning is not easily given, students will probably have to guess the word when they hear the concept of it, solve a crossword puzzle or think hard with a partner to find out the vocabulary words by reading their meaning. In order to check improvement, students assess their vocabulary knowledge; so they use a graph to give themselves a score for each word (that ranges from “I don´t know this word” to “I know this word and can use it in my own speaking and writing”) so they can score themselves again when that vocabulary chapter is finished. Current and interesting readings are also used for understanding how to use the words, followed by written exercises in which students will get to apply and consolidate their new knowledge.

Reviewing knowledge at home is an excellent way of internalizing it; so homework is also included in this class. Even though it is important, the amount and complexity of it is perfect, so students do not get stressed by it. What is most important about the homework of this class is that, more than for the teacher to check it, it is for the student to improve.

The most lovable part of the vocabulary class is its teacher. Cynthia has the hard to find skill of making everything fun, or even better, funny. So students never get bored in her class and are always willing to participate. Her smile and the way she looks at students make them feel confident enough to say what they think and to express their minds using the vocabulary they have just learnt.

In conclusion, vocabulary class is excellent and it will not only help students increase their vocabulary but also to improve their general English skills in a fun way.
