CSLI TERM & CONDITIONS

HOW TO REGISTER AT CSLI

  • TO APPLY TO CSLI: Send your completed application along with your registration and placement fees, and include two passport-size photos for your ID card. CSLI will send you a letter of acceptance and a receipt for your payment. You will also receive confirmation of your homestay, if applicable. At the same time, CSLI will send you a pre-arrival handbook, in which you will find all the tips you need to prepare your trip.

  • TO GET A CANADIAN VISA: If you require a student visa, go to the nearest Canadian embassy or consulate with your letter of acceptance, a valid passport, and proof of sufficient funds for your stay in Canada. Some countries also require a medical exam. The embassy will issue your student authorization or give you an introduction letter to show to Immigration Canada when you arrive at Vancouver Airport. They will exchange the letter for a student visa.

  • TO PAY CSLI: Once you receive your visa, or 30 days before starting classes, you are required to pay your fees. You will then receive your information package about CSLI and Vancouver before your departure date.

  • TO CONFIRM YOUR DATE OF ARRIVAL: If you have arranged a homestay, your host family will meet you at the airport. Please confirm your arrival plans in advance.

  • FIRST DAY AT CSLI:
  • Carry a map showing directions to CSLI and your home, as you may need to ask for help.
  • Arrive one hour earlier than your usual schedule for your first day of study for registration and testing.
  • Bring your study confirmation documents and proof of medical insurance.
  • We also require 2 passport-size photos for your Student ID card (if not sent with your application).

  • Students Requirements
    Applicants must:
    (1) Be 18 years old by the first day of class
    (2) Meet Canadian visa requirements
    (3) Have medical insurance. Please arrange your insurance before leaving your country; alternatively, CSLI can offer comprehensive medical protection for you at $2.00/day on arrival.

HOW TO GET A CANADIAN VISA

    CSLI HOMESTAY POLICY

    Placement fee is non refundable.

30 days' notice in writing must be given if students wish to change, extend, reduce, or cancel their accommodation and a $200 fee will be charged or deducted from the refund.
Disputes should be put in writing and addressed to the Director of CSLI. The Director's decision is final.

All CSLI homestays are carefully selected for their interests, location, safety, friendliness, comfort, care, facilities, and background. Please note that our families have little to gain financially by being part of this program. They offer their homes as part of a cultural exchange. It is as much your responsibility to fit into the lifestyle of your specially selected family as it is for them to provide you with a safe, friendly, educational, and caring environment. We ask for your feedback on your host family regularly to ensure your happiness. All students can expect from their family: a comfortable private bedroom with study desk and lamp, access to bathroom, use of TV, telephone, laundry, three daily meals made available (dinner usually with the family).  Snacks, maid service and extra events are not included. CSLI attempts to ensure that there are no other students who speak the same native language as you at your homestay.  Students are expected to act responsively and respectfully toward their homestay and their property. Students can expect to participate in some family activities. Students are required to provide their own insurance and are responsible for their own health and property.

CSLI is no way accepts responsibility or liability for damage, loss, or injury that occurs to the student or homestay as a result of either the student or the homestay family.

Each family has its own house rules regarding smoking, alcohol consumption, responsibilities, cleaning, security, noise, friends visiting, telephone use, meal times, etc.  Discuss these with your family. Most Canadian families do not allow smoking in their homes but some will allow it outside the house. Please inform us if you smoke, and check your booking before arriving. Please try to discuss any requests or concerns you have about your family with them directly before contacting CSLI for assistance. All comments regarding homestay should be relayed to CSLI through our homestay survey.  Students will be relocated when complaints are justifiable.

    Changes
Homestays are available for the time of study only. Changes to homestay bookings require 30 days' notice to allow homestay families and CSLI to adequately prepare for students' needs, and a $200 change fee applies. CSLI has great demand for these quality homestays and priority is given to current and new students before past students’ requests for an extension can be accepted. All changes must be made and confirmed with CSLI to allow for coordination of future bookings. Therefore, students are asked to make other accommodation arrangements after they have completed their last month of study. CSLI cannot guarantee a suitable homestay if bookings are not made 30 days in advance of arrival, although attempts will be made to satisfy requests.

Full payment is required 30 days in advance to guarantee selected homestays. Any concerns can be dealt with immediately by contacting our Homestay Coordinator.
