My experience in the Listening & Accent Reduction class

English class VancouverIt was the end of February when I saw one paper at the front desk talking about one special 4-week class. When I signed up for the Listening & Accent Reduction class (Diploma Program), I didn’t expect how amazing it would be. At the first class, I could realize that it would not be easy, but challenging (we couldn’t use the word difficult).

That week we had a visit of Emma, a specialist in accent reduction. She brought a lot of different techniques and exercises to reduce our accents and to talk like a native English speaker. It was a really good experience! We could learn exactly what we should do to pronounce some sounds correctly, even with the all different accents of the students in the class.

Each day was a different experience for me and my classmates. We had listening activities with music, TV series, CBC News (twice a week) and pronunciation activities like reading and learning the symbols that each sound has. In the beginning I was a little bit concerned about the two final examinations, but as the time went on I wasn’t too worried because I could see that I improved my skills a lot.

The only thing that I have to complain about is that the time used to fly during our classes. After those 4 weeks, I felt that everybody felt more confident and had a great time.
