Listening & Accent Reduction

Class description

This class helps students with accent reduction, clear speaking, and listening comprehension, and thereby improving their overall communication skills. It is an intensive program that uses a variety of interactive pronunciation and listening exercises to help students reduce their accents and improve discrete listening skills.

Through interactive pronunciation exercises, students practice creating the correct sounds and discover ways to improve in their ability to speak English clearly with a more natural pace and flow.

The class also includes vocabulary building and dictation activities so students can achieve increased listening comprehension skills.

The objective of this 4-week course is to focus on two key elements of language acquisition: listening and pronunciation. A comprehensive overview of the English sound system combined with specific listening activities aids in the development of clear speech and discrete listening skills thus improving overall communication skills.  A first and last day assessment help students see how much they can progress in just 4 just weeks.

Week 1:   Phonetic Symbols and Sounds/ Dictation

Week 2:   Voiced and Voiceless Sounds/ CBC news Podcasts

Week 3:   Reduced Speech/ TED Talks

Week 4:   Linking and Natural Speech patterns/ CBC news Podcasts
