7 Things To Do on a Rainy Day in Vancouver

7 Things To Do on a Rainy Day in Vancouver

Hi friends, “winter is coming.” I know, it sounds gloooooooooomy… but it’s time to prepare for winter in Vancouver. As you know the winter in Vancouver, it rains almost every day. Welcome to Raincouver! In the summer, you are active. You go to beach and the park, you play volleyball, soccer, and tennis, etc. You should be as active in the winter as well. If you are not, you will get homesick and you’ll feel bored. So, what can we do in the winter in Vancouver? You have many choices!

  1. Chocolate tasting at Xoxolat

Rainy weather makes us need something sweet, but it’s too boring to just eat chocolate at home. Do not worry about that! We have a good place for a chocolate tasting! The address is 1271 Homer Street (near Yaletown sky train station), the name is Xoxolat. You can taste different chocolates and learn about their origin and how they are made. You have to book online beforehand, there are many options for times and dates you can choose from. Book here: http://www.xoxolat.com/

2. Try hot yoga

Yoga is one of the most popular exercises people choose in Vancouver. I suggest to try HOT yoga, because it is cold outside. There are a lot of places to do hot yoga in

or around downtown Vancouver. You can check on the internet. You can relax and keep your body warm. Try one time, after if you like it, can do it regularly. And it can be one way of making new friends.

  1. Get to know Vancouver: Vancouver Museum, Art Gallery, Aquarium, Science World etc.

You can also do some inside activities. For example, any of the main Vancouver attractions: Vancouver Museum, Art Gallery, and Vancouver Aquarium are interesting places to spend time in. The Vancouver Art Gallery sometimes has a special exhibition (earlier, they had a Picasso Exhibition) and every Tuesday evening 5-9pm is by donation. Vancouver Aquarium is in Stanley Park and there are a lot of cool species to see!

  1. Become one with nature: go on a hike, walk around Rice Lake (North Vancouver), go for a jog..

Walking around the lake on a rainy day is such a romantic thing to do. You don’t have to go to Rice Lake, you can go to False Creek, English Bay, Deep Cove or your favourite place near water, but if you haven’t been there, you will have a really good time.

  1. Eat out (suggestions: Sandbar on Granville Island, 4th Ave shopping and Rain or Shine Ice Cream, your happy hour favourites..)

I think rainy days make me lazy. I don’t want to cook and after clean…But the problem is….. I am hungry all the time! That’s fine, no worries. I have a solution! Let’s go to a restaurant! If your friends also feel that way, call everybody and go together. Let’s sit by the window or outside on the patio (if the restaurant has heaters or blankets) to watch and listen to the rain during your meal. It will warm you up on the inside.

  1. Indoor activities – (indoor climbing, trampoline dodgeball, bowling and billiards, ect.)

It is hard to enjoy outdoor activities now, but no worries! Vancouver has a lot of indoor activity places as well! Search an activity of your choice and find the place using google maps (google maps knows everything!) And go there, have fun!

7. Vancouver Public Library

Vancouver Public Library is a really good place for spending your time. I am not telling you to go there and study..  even if you’re not studying there, the library is still an amazingly interesting place. There are bulk amounts of books, DVDs, and events. Choose one, whatever you want but if you want to watch a DVD, you need to bring your own earphones. It is quiet and comfortable so if you want to nap when you read the book, you can also take a nap.
